Gisele Martin, community activist and citizen of Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, with support from The Baum Foundation, will participate in the Land Trust Alliance’s (LTA) Rally 2015: The National Land Conservation Conference. Lending her voice to the global First Nation conversation, Gisele will share a traditional Nuu-chah-nulth story at the October 9th special event “Converging Rivers: An Evening with Native Land Trusts and Conservancies.”

Converging Rivers is a collaborative program between Native Land Trusts and community members that allows the public to learn about Native peoples’ longstanding relationships with the natural world, and the dedicated efforts of Native land trusts to protect and restore ancestral lands and waters. Converging Rivers will include a traditional welcome, followed by a presentation from local tribal dancers and singers expressing important relationships within nature. Native land trusts will share the perspectives and work of their organizations. Traditional tribal storytellers, including Gisele, will gift the audience with their engaging stories on relationships among land, water, animals, and humans and our responsibilities as nature’s caretakers.

LTA’s Rally 2015 takes place October 8-10 in Sacramento, California. The Converging Rivers special event will be held October 9, 2015 from 5:15 pm – 7:45 pm.
